Accessing In-Home Cancer Care Services
Commonwealth Home Support Program
If you are aged 65 years or over, or 50 years or over Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander, you may be eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP). The CHSP provides a range of services to help people stay independent and live at home for longer, including in-home cancer care services.
National Disability Insurance Scheme
If your cancer causes your permanent disability, you may be eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The NDIS provides funding for a range of services and financial assistance to people with a disability, their families, and carers.
Home Care Packages
Home Care Packages is an Australian government-funded program that are designed for elderly individuals ages 65 and above, ages 50 and above if you’re an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander, and those with disabilities who require financial support to continue living in their own homes. Home Care Packages are not meant for short-term or entry-level care needs.
Medicare
If you have a chronic medical condition, you may be eligible for Medicare-funded services as long as you’re using public hospital services. Other services are designed to help you manage your chronic condition and stay healthy such as home care, community nursing, and allied health professionals services, not managed by medicare.
Private Funding
If you do not qualify for any government-funded services, you can still access in-home cancer care services through private funding. This can be done through your own personal resources, insurance policies, or private health care.
