Ways to Fund In-Home Care
Commonwealth Home Support Program
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) provides a variety of services to help older people stay independent in their homes. Services include domestic assistance with everyday tasks, aged care, social support, and transport.
The CHSP is a government-funded program, and services are provided by a range of organisations, including councils, community groups, and private providers.
To be eligible for the CHSP, you must be aged 65 years or over (or 50 years or over if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander), or have a disability. If you are not sure if you are eligible, you can contact your local CHSP-approved provider.
Home Care Packages
This package helps older Australian adults live independently at home for longer by subsidising care and support. Personal assistance, housekeeping, and meal preparation are just a few of the services that may be provided.
National Disability Insurance Scheme
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a government-funded scheme that provides support for people with disabilities. The NDIS can fund a range of services and supports, including in-home care, disability support, and medical appointments.
To be eligible for the NDIS, you must have a disability that is permanent or is likely to be permanent, and you must need support to perform everyday activities.
Private Funding
If you do not qualify for government-funded care, you may be able to access in-home care through a private approved provider. Private providers can offer a range of services, including aged care, domestic assistance, and nursing care
Veterans’ Home Care
Veterans’ Home Care (VHC) is a government-funded program that provides in-home care and services to eligible war veterans and former service personnel. VHC services can include domestic assistance, aged care, clinical care, and transport.
For veterans who require assistance intensively, home health aides and skilled nurses can provide around-the-clock care. Home care services are flexible and can be customised to meet the individual needs of each veteran and family member.
Veterans’ home care can make it possible for aging veterans to stay in their own homes, surrounded by their loved ones and things they love, for as long as possible.
